Post Lorax Thought of the Day

I think when scientists or renewable energy aficionados say things like, "it's actually very simple.  If we reduce our consumption of so and so or convert this gizmo to that gizmo, we will cut our carbon dioxide output by so and so percent.  If you combine the impact of that it's like removing all cars from American roads for 10 years," (<-- generic quote) it gives the public a GROSS sense of false security about the HUGE change necessary to deal with climate change.

I feel it allows people to sit back and say, "oh.  Well if that's all it takes, then it must not be THAT dire of an issue.  The experts and technology are bound to figure things out."  And go on living their lives not realizing the DEEP, INHERENT complexity of the issue; Not realizing that technology WILL NOT save us.  That we are buried so deep in a hole that the rope ladder technology drops down to save us is 10 feet too short.
