NE Solidarity March (Occupy Worcester)

Occupy Worcester would like to send out an invitation to all Worcester Community groups to march with us in solidarity on Sunday, 11/13/2011.  We are all working for a better future for our communities and wish to display that message of inter-group support.  The March will start at 11:00AM from Worcester Common behind City Hall.

Occupy Worcester is:

  1. We are working on fostering pride in our neighborhoods and keeping them clean:  We hosted a successful clean-up of Main South on October 22nd, and will be having another neighborhood clean-up on Highland Street this Saturday 11/12/2011 at 10AM.
  2. We are working to keep our government officials accountable to the citizens they represent: Occupy Worcester members made sure to "rock the vote" this past election. We also seek campaign finance reform from our politicians between elections.
  3. Our values include ending nefarious corporate domination by supporting local businesses, directing money away from corporate conglomerates and campaigning for a constitutional amendment to end corporate personhood.
  4. We work against corrupt financial systems that have clandestinely eroded our economy: Occupy Worcester joined forces with the Worcester-Anti-Foreclosure-Team (WAFT) to blockade illegal foreclosures of our neighbors' homes by Wall Street Banks.  We held a Move Your Money Campaign and day of action to educate the public about Mega banks and encouraged citizens to transfer their money from these banks into local financial institutions and credit unions.
  5. We are working hard to break down social barriers and challenge social and economic injustices: We are an all-inclusive group that works through a consensus-based process in order to consciously deconstruct power structures that have been the status quo for far too long.
  6. We value equal opportunity to quality education: we have set up a "Free University" that will offer educational workshops, especially targeting outreach to the Bell Hill, Main South, Quinsigammond and Plumley Village communities.  One of our goals also includes ensuring student loan reform and loan forgiveness.
  7. We support artists and musicians: there are discussions to move forward on Occupy Worcester poetry slams, plays and concerts in the near future.

We are a group made up of concerned citizens of all ages, students and activists and we believe our values are in complete alignment with yours so please march with us in Solidarity this Sunday at 11:00AM starting from Worcester Common and express our collective voices for positive change that we can all believe in.

Thank you!

Sincerely,

Shreena
